Staycation at the Westin resort golf club Abudhabi (Hotel Review)

Arrival: Upon entering the Westin Abu Dhabi golf club resort by car, you are greeted by a very eye appealing and vibrant lush green tropical background and after following a few turns and a little incline up, you will arrive at the main gate of hotel, where you are greeted by their friendly and free valet car service. Instead of the automatic doors found in most modern urban hotels, there is a well-dressed doorman who will pleasantly greet you and open the doors for you, to give you an immediate feeling of the relaxed resort lifestyle but yet high service standard that you are about to experience. As you enter the modernly styled lobby, with relaxed lightning & soothing music you immediately notice the large window overlooking the golf course, where you can see scores of golfers practising their swing at the driving range area.

Room: Check-in of course, as with other SPG chain hotels, was a breeze and I was provided a beautiful deluxe room with a fantastic view overlooking the golf course and a beautiful lake. The room features an earthly colour tone of cream and brown to complement the simple yet plush furnishings and that impressive floor-to-ceiling window with balcony.  Deluxe room was a fairly large room with all the amenities that you would expect from such a world class property, including one of the most comfortable king size Westin Heavenly Bed. As for the rest of the room, the bathroom was spotless and surprisingly spacious with their Heavenly shower/bath, which is a dual rain shower head with a separate bathtub, and a sectioned off toilet. Best part of the room was balcony with sliding windows which opens about 2/3 of the way which gives you an unparalleled panoramic view of the golf course from the comfort of your room. Balcony is also set with lounger chairs to unwind over a cup of freshly-made coffee.  If you are travelling for work, the Room also offers a big desk chair and spacious work desk for you to get things done, and you will receive complimentary High Speed Internet Access.

Facilities: The two outdoor pools are located on the opposite side of the golf course and are beautifully decorated with palm trees and lined with red lounge chairs. The family pool gets fairly busy, but there is another pool for lane swimmers and poolside loungers. There you can get a lounge chair with its legs dipped into the water thanks to well thought out platform at the edge of the pool, or use one of the various shaded cabanas a bit further away from the pool. For those craving a workout, you can head to the Westin Workout fitness studio, or go for a nice jog on along the paths on the golf course, following one of the maps provided upon request. Guests can also enjoy the Heavenly Spa, Westin Heavenly Spa consists of six treatment rooms and an outdoor relaxation area in a tranquil garden setting, which offers a range of treatments for pampering or for those seeking some rejuvenation after golf. These treatments are said to be designed to nurture body and soul within the lush gardens of the resort. The westin hotel also offers extensive business meeting facilities comprised of three ballrooms, a conference center, board rooms, and a business center, as well as catering for up to 400 people.

“An interesting amenity I hadn’t seen before was the ability to rent New Balance exercise gear for 20 something AED, which could be very useful for those travelling light or whom didn’t bring their exercise gear.”

Dining Options: There are six restaurants, Fairways, The Shades, The Retreat, The Lounge, Lemon & Lime and Sacci. The Lounge is for enjoying a relaxing coffee and some pastries and beside it is the Lemon & Lime, a contemporary bar offering a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. On the first floor there is the Retreat which is a golf side sports bar for your après-golf wind down and recovery. Fairways is main restaurant where the breakfast buffet and Friday brunch are located. The Shades is the an outdoor pool side snack bar, where you can order some simple dishes, a cold drink or even shisha. Finally, Sacci is the Italian restaurant where you can savour fresh Italian specialities such as antipasti, handmade pastas, pizza a la piedra and signature dishes such as tagliata Florentine.

Extra: While I was there I had an opportunity to visit for the launch of new cool concept “Glamping under the stars”, a glamorous camping experience in lush property of Westin, where you can spend a night under the stars in 5 star Bedouin tent set in beautiful lush garden of Westin. Each tent is equipped with Heavenly Westin bed, a mini lounge set, bedside table, lighting, and outdoor camping chair. BBQ dinner setup by the fire are located outside the tent and for the breakfast they will deliver a luxury basket breakfast hamper to your tent. they also have heavenly spa facilities in camping which is kind of cool.
